We chose “flame” as the winner for editor’s choice in the category of digital submissions because of its layered musical themes and blending of genres. Through its combination of soft, earnest vocals and seamlessly integrated rap, the song encapsulates the excitement and joy of love. The calming aural aesthetic, as well as the variation of musical instruments and lyrics, creates a soundscape of the experience of deep care and feeling in a romantic relationship. The title of the piece feels apt: like a gentle flame, the song flows with warmth and light, conveying the bright happiness of love.
